MPs’ poor show

I WAS fascinated by the article about John Stonehouse (Mail) because the day he attended the house of commons to give an account of his actions, i took part in a protest march followed by a lobby in Parliament.

the finer report had revealed more than one million children of single parents were living in poverty and we felt the Government was dragging its feet on implementing the recommendations. Due to the interest in what Stonehouse had been up to, the house was full to capacity. from the public gallery i witnessed his fascinating account, which he delivered in a dramatic fashion.

After he left the chamber, most of the MPs followed suit.

how terrible that the troubles of one man filled the house to capacity while the troubles of a million children sufficed to render it almost empty.
