. . . AND FOUND

A PERFECT reunion has been achieved within hours. Paul Foy, 85, of Colchester, was looking for comrades James Ince and George Allen from National Service in the Royal Fusiliers, 1952 to 1954. ‘He’d like to know what happened to them,’ wrote Paul’s granddaughter, Lauren. Both Londoners, George lived on the Old Kent Road and James was from the East End. After training, the three were posted to Sudan. Back on civvy street, James became a builder and George returned to his job as a Borough Market porter. As a reservist, Paul served in Egypt during the 1956 Suez crisis. He worked abroad on communications systems for Marconi and lost contact with his mates. On the morning this column was published, cousins Sammy Allen and George Bartlett emailed to say their grandfather George was keen to see Paul. Soon afterwards, Joanne Ince emailed: ‘James is my dad and he’d love to get in touch.’
