Scilly islanders lose last bank
THE only remaining bank on the Isles of Scilly is due to close next year.
Lloyds Bank will close its branch on St Mary’s in April 2022. The bank claims the branch was being used less often.
Phil Moon, who runs a restaurant and takeaway, said the closure had come as a shock. He said he regularly used the bank to stock up on change and secure his takings.
Islanders will still be able to bank at the Post Office, with one branch on each of the five inhabited Isles of Scilly.
The number of UK bank branches has halved in the last decade, from almost 15,000 in 2010 to around 7,600 last year.
