And finally…Sir Trevor is new GamesMaster

By Eleanor Sharples TV & Radio Correspondent

THE disembodied head of Sir Patrick Moore helping put videogame fans through their paces on TV was one of the more surreal images of the 1990s.

Twenty years on, Sir Trevor McDonald is set to take over as the all-knowing, floating face of the GamesMaster.

The former News at Ten anchor, 82, will portray the character in the forthcoming revival of the eponymous computer games series, it emerged yesterday.

GamesMaster, which was broadcast from 1992 to 1998 on Channel 4, sees celebrities and fans take part in challenges. Sir Trevor will set up tasks as competitors engage in virtual battles across different games in a bid to win the Golden Joystick trophy.

The broadcaster said: ‘I am delighted to be taking on this iconic role for a new generation of viewers.’

The three-part series will be co-presented by actor Robert Florence, gaming host Frankie Ward and comedian Ty Logan. The original programme was fronted by Dominik Diamond and featured the late Sir Patrick advising contestants how to fight cartoon monsters.

The reboot will premiere on E4’s YouTube channel and will then be shown on E4.

Sir Trevor is best known for his career as a news presenter on ITV, including hosting current affairs programme Tonight with Trevor McDonald from 1999 to 2007.
