AMERICAN businessman Chris Kirchner has announced his intention to buy Derby County after the club went into administration last month. Kirchner, 34, is the founder of a global logistics firm and a statement to Derby fans read: ‘We don’t know each other yet, but we have two things in common: our love for football and our desire to rebuild Derby into the club everyone deserves.’

LEICESTER have submitted a planning application to expand the King Power Stadium to a capacity of 40,000 seats. After a public consultation in recent months, the club have applied to Leicester City Council for permission to develop the stadium, which currently has a capacity of 32,000.

JOEY BARTON will escape formal sanctions after sparking outrage by comparing a poor performance by his Bristol Rovers side to the Holocaust. He said: ‘The team is like musical chairs. Someone gets in and does well but then gets suspended or injured. Someone does well but then has a Holocaust, a nightmare, an absolute disaster.’ The FA scrutinised his comments but ruled out a fine or ban.
