Tests for careless elderly drivers
A SCHEME allowing over-70s to avoid prosecution for careless driving should be rolled out across the UK, Governmentfunded experts have recommended.
‘Fitness to Drive’ assessments, which are currently used by a handful of police forces, evaluate motorists who are caught committing offences such as skipping a red light or driving too slowly. They then offer guidance on whether the driver’s licence should be revoked or not.
Those being tested would avoid the typical £100 fine and three penalty points, the Older Drivers Task Force said.
