I SUPPoRTed the government temporarily taking on extra powers when it was feared the nhS might be unable to cope and we were facing alarming figures for hospitalisations and deaths due to Covid.

But with 80 per cent of the population vaccinated and hospitalisations and deaths low, the time is right for people to once again have the freedom to make informed decisions about our own actions. This is entirely appropriate in a democracy.

however, restrictions have again been re-introduced not because of an imminent threat, but due to fears that omicron, unlike other variants, might be vaccine resistant. The real danger is that the public will grow tired of catastrophic predictions and ignore regulations.
