Big Brother

i HAD to laugh that the Government is planning to install electric car chargers in all new houses.

i hope the owners enjoy a better experience than i’ve had. i bought a hybrid car, electric and petrol, which has the plug-in feature.

the installation of the box went smoothly and i was able to charge the car after installing an app on my phone.

the next task was to take advantage of the off-peak tariff in the middle of the night, but it was impossible to set the timer on my mobile phone app.

i used to be a techie in the it world at a time when all our systems had to work.

the car dealer has gone through the technical gizmos on the car, which you would need to be a rocket scientist to understand. i have to download an app if i want a manual for the car. Why can’t new cars be simple?

electric car charge boxes don’t have simple timers on the front like central heating controls. i wonder why the Government wants us to use the web? Presumably this is to monitor electricity use ready for when it taxes us for charging our cars.

the powers that be can access all my information: how far i have driven, what i am using in petrol and electricity, where i’ve been and how fast i’ve driven. Yes, Big Brother is watching me! NICHOLAS SUTCLIFFE,

Durham.
