. . . AND FOUND

THE boys’ choir Steffani’s Silver Songsters performed at theatres and music halls and on the radio, and toured all over the country in the 1930s and 1940s. The choir leader was Arturo Steffani (real name Fred Wisker) and a famous member was singer and whistler Ronnie Ronalde. Simon Henshaw wrote to tell us about his father, James, 93, who thought he might be the last Songster, though it was possible another member, Alan Foster, could still be around. The Songsters featured in the 1945 musical film What Do We Do Now?, directed by the comedy actor Charles Hawtrey, and James was eager to see it, but was unable to trace a copy. Our ace researchers Chris Herrick and Jeff Pinson discovered Alan Foster has changed his surname to Creamer and they found an address for him. James hopes to organise a reunion soon. The British Film Institute has a copy of What Do We Do Now? and it’s hoped a viewing can be arranged.
