Meghan’s bouquet for Texas massacre victims

She flies 1,400 miles to lay flowers ‘in personal capacity as mother’

YARDS from the scene of such unspeakable horror, a series of crosses serve as a makeshift memorial to Robb Elementary School’s tragic victims.

Yesterday saw the addition of a bouquet of white roses as the Duchess of Sussex made an unannounced visit to Texas to pay tribute to the 19 children and two teachers shot dead in Tuesday’s massacre. Her appearance in Uvalde, 1,400 miles from her

Montecito home, came as a surprise to a close-knit community reeling from America’s worst school shooting for a decade.

A spokesman said Meghan made the trip in a ‘personal capacity as a mother’ to offer her condolences and support in person to families experiencing ‘unimaginable grief’. The duchess – who has previously said she wished ‘more people in my country would make a stand’ on gun control – also examined tributes others have left outside the Uvalde County Courthouse near the site of the shootings.

Dressed casually in a T-shirt and baseball cap with Victoria Beckham jeans and Adidas trainers – along with a £19,000 Cartier watch once owned by Princess Diana, as well as a £5,500 bracelet from the French jewellers – Meghan flew in from California, where her father, Thomas, is currently gravely ill in hospital as he recovers from a suspected major stroke. It is not thought the duchess has been to visit him.

Meghan, 40, and Harry, 37, are due to travel to London in the coming days with their children Archie, three, and 11-monthold Lilibet to join in the royal celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
