Meet the first trans Barbie!

BarBie girls can now live in an inclusive world, with the launch of the first transgender doll.

Dressed in a red bodice and glittery leggings, the doll, pictured, is modelled on the US trans actress Laverne Cox. The move by manufacturer Mattel, which prices its dolls at $40 (£32), is part of a wider effort to throw off the stereotypes of the ditzy blonde, longlegged Barbie and make the brand more inclusive, with dolls inspired by female academics and sports stars, as well as those who are not able-bodied.

Miss Cox, 49, who starred in Netflix’s prison comedy-drama Orange is The New Black, said: ‘i hope that kids of all gender identities can look at this Barbie and dream.’
