MANE: AFRICAN PLAYERS IGNORED FOR BALLON D’OR

DOMINIC KING

SADIO MANE believes African players are not considered as serious Ballon d’Or candidates as he revealed his desire to become the continent’s first winner since 1995. Mane has been outstanding in 2022, leading Senegal to the Africa Cup of Nations title and the World Cup finals, alongside his superb form for Liverpool. Asked if African players are unfairly overlooked, he said: ‘It’s true. For an African player not to have won since George Weah, it is sad for sure.’ Doubts remain about Mane’s future at Liverpool amid interest from Bayern Munich. He has promised to say more after tomorrow’s Champions League final with Real Madrid. The 30-year-old added: ‘I am fully focused on the game. Come back to me after and I will give you the best answer.’
