...and don’t call Fat Controller ‘fat’
By Chris Brooke
FAMILIES on a day out at a Thomas the Tank Engine steam train line have reportedly been warned not to call the Fat Controller ‘fat’.
Visitors were told that ‘fat’ is a slur and the character should be called by his real name, Sir Topham Hatt.
One father told The Sun: ‘We were talking about The Fat Controller when a staff member stepped in.
‘In no uncertain terms we were told no one could use such a slur.’ The ten-milelong Watercress Line runs between Alresford and Alton in Hampshire and is popular with families. Special events on the railway include days out with Thomas.
Children can take a train ride with Thomas and meet some of the characters from the much-loved books by Wilbert Awdry.
The Watercress Line, which advertises ‘outdoor entertainment shows with Sir Topham Hatt’, has been contacted.
