Trump raid: FBI ‘looked for secret nuclear documents’

THE FBI raid on Donald Trump’s Florida home was looking for top- secret documents on nuclear weapons, it was claimed yesterday.

The Washington Post cited ‘people familiar with the investigation’ as it reported the classified papers were among the items being sought from MaraLago during Monday’s unprecedented search.

It said there was ‘deep concern’ at high levels of the US government about the type of information the ex-president had taken when he left the White House last year, and it was ‘in danger of falling into the wrong hands’. Mr Trump slammed the report as a ‘hoax’.

The Wall Street Journal said the list of items removed included ‘11 sets of classified documents, including some marked as top-secret and meant to be only available in special government facilities’. It added that the three-page list was an inventory of 20 boxes of items, binders of photos, a handwritten note and ‘information about the “President of France”.’

The search has only deepened America’s political divide, with Mr Trump and his supporters framing it as a witch hunt and retribution by his Democratic rivals, including Joe Biden.

On Thursday, the US Justice Department asked a judge to unseal the warrant and receipt of contents seized so the public could see the details for themselves. That could emerge at any time after Mr Trump said he would not stand in the way.

He wrote on his TruthSocial platform: ‘Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the un-American, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home ... I am going a step further by encouraging the immediate release of those documents, even though they have been drawn up by radical-Left Democrats and possible future political opponents, who have a strong and powerful vested interest in attacking me.’
