Two charged with ‘assault on Andrew heckler’

TWO MEN have been charged with assault after a protester who heckled Prince Andrew as he walked behind the Queen’s coffin was allegedly ‘thrown to the ground’.

The men, both aged 34, were arrested following the incident on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh on September 12. Video footage appeared to show the mourners stepping in after the Duke of York was ‘verbally abused’ while walking behind his mother’s coffin.

At the time, a 22-year-old protester was charged with a breach of the peace.

He is due to appear at court at a later date.

But police have now confirmed the further arrests. A Police Scotland spokesman said: ‘Two men, both aged 34, have been arrested and charged in connection with assault, following an incident on the Royal Mile. A report will be sent for the consideration of the Procurator Fiscal.’
