Trans-friendly badges row
CITIZENS Advice staff have reacted with anger after its chief executive suggested they wear trans-friendly badges displaying their pronouns.
Ex-Whitehall mandarin Dame Clare Moriarty told workers ‘we shouldn’t assume someone’s gender based on appearance’.
In a message seen by the Daily Telegraph, she wrote: ‘You can help to normalise sharing pronouns by sharing yours.’
Badges include gender-neutral ‘Ze/Zir/Zirs’ or ‘Ey/Em/Eirs’. They are not compulsory, but one worker said many ‘are deeply unhappy with this kind of ideological instruction’. Dame Clare said: ‘We want a service where everyone is comfortable coming to us for help, and a workplace where everyone belongs.’
