Sancho to miss Spain camp

By CHRIS WHEELER

JADON SANCHO is missing Manchester United’s training camp in Spain to focus on getting over his recent problems.

Sancho was left out of England’s squad for the World Cup having not played for United since October due to illness, and travelled to the Netherlands last month to work with coaches recommended by manager Erik ten Hag.

The 23-year-old also deactivated his social media to concentrate on his family and the second half of the season, according to club sources. Sancho’s United career has shown signs of taking off under Ten Hag, but he has yet to hit the heights expected of him following a £73million move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021. United confirmed yesterday that Sancho has not been included in the squad for this week’s camp, which also includes friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis, because he is ‘continuing his individual training programme as part of a process to get back to his highest level’.

David de Gea, Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek, three of United’s other stars who missed out on the World Cup, were among the party who travelled to southern Spain on Saturday. Ten Hag’s side face Cadiz on Wednesday and Real Betis in Seville on Saturday before returning to Carrington to step up their preparations for when the season resumes after the World Cup later this month.
