Sterling to fly back after armed burglary at home

ENGLAND’S preparations for last night’s match were rocked by the shock omission of Raheem Sterling from the match-day squad after his home was burgled by armed robbers while his family were inside. Sterling, the most-capped player in England’s squad, will jet home from Qatar to return to his Surrey home after the break-in on Saturday night. Sterling has concerns for the safety of his partner and children, who were at home when the burglary occurred. He will assess the situation before deciding if he will fly back to Qatar. England boss Gareth Southgate said: ‘He is going home. It’s a situation he needs time with his family to deal with. Sometimes football isn’t the most important thing. We’re going to support him and give him the time he needs.’
