I’d get in lift with Keir or Nicola, he confesses

By David Churchill Chief Political Correspondent

THE former Prime Minister has said he wouldn’t mind getting stuck in a lift with Sir Keir Starmer or Nicola Sturgeon because both ‘are actually far nicer and more amusing than you might otherwise imagine’.

Boris Johnson locked horns during several heated exchanges with Sir Keir at the despatch box during his three years in Downing Street.

The pair used Prime Minister’s Questions repeatedly to attack each other, with Mr Johnson branding the Labour leader ‘ Captain Crasheroonie Snoozefest’.

The latter accused the ex-leader of misleading MPs over alleged parties in Downing Street during the Covid pandemic.

But in a light-hearted moment from the interview aired last night, Mr Johnson was asked whether he’d rather be stuck in a lift with Sir Keir or Ms Sturgeon, who he also clashed with several times.

He said: ‘Oh brother. Oh actually, it’s like all these things – and I’m sure viewers will understand this – both individuals are actually far nicer and more amusing than you might otherwise imagine.

‘ The kind of hostility you see between politicians on screen is often not reflected in real life. I think, provided it wasn’t like 50 floors, I wouldn’t mind either of them.’

WHAT HAPPENED TO NICOLA?
