Dyche: I’m excited to be back in the dugout

By DOMINIC KING

SEAN DYCHE is ready to shape Everton’s future by embracing the club’s past.

There will be no first day nerves for the new manager this afternoon as he take charge for the first time at Goodison Park against Arsenal, just excitement about being back on the touchline for the first time since leaving Burnley last April.

‘I will have that game-day anxiety — are the players going to deliver what we have been working on — but there will be excitement,’ said Dyche, whose new club are battling relegation for the second season in a row. ‘It’s Everton. I know the history. I am proud to be here. Imagine the chance I have to play my part. It is a hard situation but I’m still excited.’ Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, can understand the scepticism of supporters around a deadline-day deal for Jorginho. But the Spaniard is confident they will not be scarred by signing another ageing player from Chelsea. Jorginho joined for an initial £10million but the move prompted unease among some fans, after Willian made the same move in 2020 and struggled. ‘Every time you sign a player you generate some debate,’ Arteta said. ‘This is football. You don’t always get it right but we have all the work and intention to make it work. I am confident that this one will be good.’
