Foster signing is Wrexham coup

By NATHAN SALT

BEN FOSTER has come out of retirement to sign for national League leaders Wrexham until the end of the season. Former Manchester United, Watford, West Brom and England goalkeeper Foster, 39, rejected newcastle last summer and last month Tottenham failed to land him as cover for Hugo Lloris. But after Wrexham lost their no 1 Rob Lainton to knee ligament damage, boss Phil Parkinson convinced Foster, who last played for the Welsh side on loan in 2005 and has eight England caps, to return to action. ‘I don’t need much money, the negotiations took about five minutes,’ said Foster. ‘Wages wise, it’s peanuts. The part for me is getting the team promoted.’ Wrexham, who are owned by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are filming season two of their disney+ documentary and sit three points clear at the top of the national League with a game in hand. Foster called them the ‘perfect’ club for him to boost his commercial opportunities. He is now a hugely influential figure, with 115 million YouTube views and 840,000 TikTok followers. He trained for the first time yesterday and could start tomorrow at home to York City.
