‘ Terrifying!’ Fergie on her relations with Prince Philip

SARAH, Duchess of Yo r k raised eyebrows with her recent claim that she became ‘ even closer’ to the late Queen Elizabeth due to her support for ‘poor Prince Andrew’.

Now, she’s been giving her thoughts about Prince Philip.

Fergie, 63, says the late Duke of Edinburgh was a ‘wise’ man who could be ‘terrifying’ towards her.

Philip studiously avoided the Duchess since photographs of her sunbathing topless were published by a newspaper in 1992. The Duchess’s toes were apparently being sucked by American financial manager John Bryan at the time.

Asked if Philip was a wise man, she replies: ‘Very wise. You had to be on your best. If you asked a silly comment, you were certainly told it was a silly comment. Terrifying. “Why are you asking me that? I do it every day. Why are you asking me that?” Ugh! Then you lose all your confidence. “Did you go driving today?” “Car or horse?” “Oh, God, sorry. Yes.”’

Speaking to chat show host Alan Carr on the Life’s A Beach podcast, the Duchess adds: ‘The Duke Of Edinburgh used to say, “Remember Sarah, you’ve got to be electable but never elected”. Nice. Resonates, right?’

Although Fergie is thought to have exchanged not a single word

with her former father-in-law after she divorced Prince Andrew in 1996, she remained on good terms with the Queen. Sarah stayed several times at Balmoral, although she always left before Philip arrived.

‘If you ask me what I’d be doing with the Queen right now, I’d be walking, looking at primroses and snowdrops, and telling her all about the magnolia tree,’ she adds.

While promoting her latest romantic novel, the Duchess has spoken extensively about the late Queen and Prince Andrew, her exhusband with whom she still lives at Royal Lodge, Windsor: ‘Because also, during the last three years, her poor son has been going through such a tumultuous time, and I think Her Majesty was relieved I could help her with him, so we became even closer, then.’
