Cardiff farewell for Bale

GARETH BALE will receive a farewell from Wales fans at tonight’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Latvia in Cardiff. Former captain Bale retired in January after winning 111 caps and scoring 41 goals — both records for the team — in a remarkable 16-year international career. The former Real Madrid star, 33, played his final game at the World Cup in November and will arrive in Cardiff from his Los Angeles home before kick-off. There will be a pitchside presentation ahead of the game with Bale expected to say a few words to the supporters. ‘Gareth Bale will be at the Cardiff City Stadium,’ the FA of Wales said on Twitter. ‘There will be an opportunity pre-match for the Red Wall to show their appreciation to a Cymru legend.’ Wales opened their qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw in Croatia thanks to Nathan Broadhead’s last-gasp equaliser.

TV: Wales v Latvia, 7.45pm. LIVE on S4C and Viaplay Sports 2.
