GB absence angers Dan

MIKE DICKSON

DAN EVANS is one of just three Brits in the main French Open draw and in typically honest fashion he pointed to that as a measure of where the nation’s game is at.

Evans, Jack Draper and Cam Norrie will contest the men’s singles, but with Emma Raducanu injured no women made the cut.

Norrie showed signs of wear and tear as he lost 6-3, 6-0 to Francisco Cerundolo in the Lyon semi-finals.

‘They’ve been lucky they had a Grand Slam champion and she’s a very good player but the rankings don’t lie, do they?’ said Evans, who plays Thanasi Kokkinakis tomorrow.

‘There’s way further to go than just the top players, it’s from the bottom up. The grass last year papered over some cracks. There will be a bit of soul searching I imagine, after the grass.’
