Gem of a find sells for £5k

FEW things beat the feeling of finding lost money.

But auctioneer Nick Burns found a 25-carat emerald inside a dressing table. The jewel, pictured, was only discovered when the table’s anonymous Perthshire owner decided to sell. It is thought to date back to the South-Asian Mughal empire and sparked furious bidding at Lindsay Burns & Company Auctioneers and Valuers in Perth last week.

It eventually sold for £4,800, while the table sold for £120.
