Hospital limits visits amid rise in Covid cases

VISITING restrictions have been reinstated at a hospital amid a rise in Covid cases.

An ‘essential visiting only’ rule has been put in place in the acute wards at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Paisley, pictured.

The measure will last until Tuesday, November 2.

It comes amid an increase in Covid-19 hospital admissions due to a rise in cases in Renfrewshire in recent weeks and warnings the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow will increase Covid19 infections across central Scotland.

There were 1,128 cases in Renfrewshire in the week to September 18. Although this dropped to 555 cases in the past seven days, numbers are still far higher than during the summer, with only 251 cases in the first week of August.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said in a statement: ‘The RAH has, in recent weeks, experienced an increase in Covid-19 hospital admissions due to the prevalence in Renfrewshire.

‘Due to the challenges within wards with open accommodation, the separation of patients and their visitors is more difficult. Likewise, observing social distancing and other mitigations against Covid are more challenging.’
