What a trooper

nOT all teenagers are snowflakes. My 13-year-old granddaughter, amy, was playing hockey when she was hit in the face by a ricocheting ball.

She was left with two black eyes and a broken nose, but the doctor said nothing could be done until the swelling had subsided.

Undeterred, the next day amy went to school and played in another hockey match. a few days later, she went to have her nose straightened, a painful procedure. Her mum tried to persuade her to take a break from hockey, saying: ‘If you break your nose again I don’t think the doctors will fix it a second time.’

amy replied: ‘We could go to a different hospital and say I fell in the playground!’ Days later she was back playing for the under-15s team. DAVID FOTHERGILL,
