A record-breaking autumn

SCOTLAND has enjoyed its third warmest autumn since records began.

Figures released by the Met Office show that only 19 9 and 199 have seen a warmer September, October and November spell as the average temperature for these months reached 9.4 C, fully 1.5C warmer than normal.

Had it not been for the sudden dip in temperatures towards the end of November – and the impact of Storm Arwen – insiders say the season would have been even warmer.

The Met Office says that much of the credit for the near record-breaking temperatures rests with September, the second-warmest on record for the UK.
