A Swift response... and write on cue

FOR my money, Taylor Swift, left, is one of the most talented and prolific singer-songwriters working today. In 2020 alone, while the rest of us were wrestling with sourdough bread and bingeing box sets, she released two albums and at the age of 32 has 11 Grammy awards, nine studio albums (two of which she re-recorded after losing the rights to her own music) and writes her own songs. So why is it that Damon Albarn, remembered by most in my generation as the man who performed and co-wrote (with three others) Song 2, whose chorus is the word ‘Woo-hoo’ repeated four times, felt the need to take her down a peg or two? ‘She doesn’t write her own songs,’ Albarn told a newspaper this week. Swift, er, swiftly hit back informing Albarn: ‘I write ALL of my own songs.’ Woo-hoo for Taylor.
