Legend had last laugh on the woke warriors
I WAS sad to hear about the death of Barry Cryer, surely one of the last gentleman comedians with a razor-sharp wit.
He was at his best when off the cuff, whether that was on stage or on shows such as Radio 4’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue.
His gentle humour stands in stark contrast to the hyperwoke, unbearably self-aware, ‘this is funny because it’s also a commentary on our unequal society’ humour which dominates the airwaves today.
As the man himself once wisely decreed: ‘Analysing comedy is like dissecting a frog. Nobody laughs and the frog dies.’
