Russian TV reporter reveals location of mortar... day before it’s blown up

NOT so much a breaking story as an exploding one, as Ukrainian forces destroy a Russian mortar after its position was accidentally revealed by a Kremlin journalist.

A day after Aleksandr Kots’ report on the huge 2S4 Tyulpan 240mm weapon from the front line in Severodonetsk, it was blown to smithereens. The 2S4 is the largest-calibre mortar system in service, and can fire 288lb (130kg) shells up to six miles.

War reporter Kots has been described as one of Vladimir Putin’s ‘most valuable propaganda assets’. In 2014, Putin gave him an Order of Merit for the Fatherland medal.
