PICK OF TODAY’S RADIO

THANKS A LOT, MILTON JONES!, 6.30PM, RADIO 4

MILTON JONES (pictured), the wild-eyed, wildhaired and wild-minded comedian, does a routine that’s a tornado of puns and one-liners, delivered deadpan and at top speed. He’s currently touring with his show Milton Impossible, but you can get a burst of his humour with this new radio series, which started last week. With the help of his assistant, Anton (Tom Goodman-Hill), he sets out to help people — yet rarely achieves that noble goal. It’s a standard comedy show set-up, but Milton’s wild-brained originality makes it sound fresh and new.

■ ARDAL O’HANLON will be joining MARK FORREST (10AM, SCALA RADIO) on his show this morning. The Father Ted star, stand-up comedian and writer has a new comic novel out. It’s called Brouhaha and is set in the Irish border town of Tullyana — a town with many secrets. One of the residents, Dove Connolly, has, or so the forensics suggest, committed suicide, leaving behind a strange novel and many an unanswered question.
