Happy days

I TRAVELLED on the Edinburgh to Glasgow train line from August 1962 until January 1969.

I got on at Cleland on the 7.25am as a 16-year-old school leaver travelling to an office in Glasgow. I came home on the 5.16pm. I do not remember ever being late for work or home too late for dinner.

The station had flower beds in summer and a roaring fire in the waiting room in winter, all attended to by the station master.

What luxury for so-called spartan times and unknown nowadays. I am not alone in thinking we have gone backward and not forward. MARGARET NICHOLSON, Newmains,

Lanarkshire.
