Open and shut case

I TRIED to book a dental appointment to deal with a broken tooth I’ve had since mid-pandemic.

The front door of the clinic was locked so I rattled the handle.

The receptionist opened it and told me I couldn’t just walk in off the street. I asked her: ‘Why – are you having the floor done?’

‘Covid,’ she replied, arms folded like a headmistress. ‘But all Covid restrictions were lifted months ago,’ I replied.

I was told I’d have to go home and phone up.

On the morning of the appointment, I would be phoned with the instructions on how to gain access to the premises.

How can we ever get back to normal if some people carry on behaving like this?

M. CAINE, Coventry.
