Set the standards

THE Sue Gray report has finally been released and reveals a deplorable culture at Downing Street where drinking and rule breaking had become the norm.

I have always remembered what I was told as a junior manager when I was just starting my career: ‘The way we manage dictates the way others working for you manage.’

Boris Johnson has a history of doing what he wants and of ignoring the rules. People working under him at all levels see that as the norm and think the rules don’t apply to them.

The Prime Minister set the standards that prevailed and that’s why the buck should stop with him.

IF YOU live above the shop, as Boris does, it must be difficult to avoid what is going on in the office. It would be rude not to raise a glass to a retiring colleague as you pass through. And since when has it been an offence to play Abba’s music in the privacy of your own home?
