Tuchel and Conte both sent off after dust-ups

By ADRIAN KAJUMBA at Stamford Bridge

CHELSEA boss Thomas Tuchel and Tottenham rival Antonio Conte were both sent off after two extraordinary dust-ups in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge yesterday. Tuchel and Conte had to be separated after a chest-to-chest confrontation following PierreEmile Hojbjerg controversially making it 1-1, with referee Anthony Taylor failing to penalise Rodrigo Bentancur for a foul in the build-up. The pair goaded each other with their second-half goal celebrations before going eyeball-to-eyeball at full-time as they shook hands, sparking an ugly mass confrontation involving players, officials and security staff from both clubs in an incredible finish to the badtempered derby draw. They now both face touchline bans. Tuchel appeared furious that Conte did not look him in the eye and refused to let go of his hand while TV cameras picked up the Italian asking his opposite number: ‘What do you want?’ Moments after Harry Kane salvaged a draw for Spurs with an injury-time header, a fired-up Conte also clashed with Chelsea sub Cesar Azpilicueta and midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who was injured and not in the squad, as he headed for the tunnel. But Taylor, public enemy No 1 due to his history of angering Chelsea with his decisions, was also in Tuchel’s sights. The Stamford Bridge boss insisted that he should never officiate one of the club’s games again, adding: ‘Maybe it would be better.’ When asked again about Chelsea fans’ concerns about Taylor’s officiating, Tuchel continued: ‘I don’t think that just some of the fans think that — the whole dressing room thinks that.’ Speaking about his confrontations with Conte, Tuchel added: ‘I don’t have any problem, and I’m sure he won’t either. We both fought for our teams. Both dugouts are very close, so it got a bit heated. Nobody got insulted, nobody got hurt. We didn’t have a fist fight. So for me it is not a big deal.’ Conte said: ‘The referee showed me a red card but he didn’t understand the dynamic of what happened, but it’s okay I have to accept. There is a video to understand what happened. For sure I am not passive.’

The Verdict: Premier League
