Teaching union in strike warning

SCHOOLS could face strike action before Christmas, teaching union chiefs warned yesterday.

The NASUWT union said the prospect of industrial action over pay disputes is drawing closer and insisted if teachers walk out it will be ‘the fault of the Scottish Government alone’.

Mike Corbett, national official of NASUWT Scotland, said: ‘Although we have not yet announced ballot dates, we are moving towards that stage if no appropriate pay award is made, and we would aim to take any resulting industrial action before Christmas.’

ScotRail commuters face fresh misery with ‘significant disruption’ to services. Network Rail workers belonging to the RMT union are planning 24-hour strikes on the next two Saturdays in their ongoing pay dispute.
