Tortoise, 70, is superdad
HE may be 70 years old but Dirk the giant tortoise, pictured, shows no signs of slowing down.
He has just fathered eight babies, giving his endangered species a huge conservation boost.
Dirk has had babies with two females so far this year – the first giant Galapagos tortoises successfully bred in the UK – at the Crocodiles of the World zoo, Oxfordshire. Now he’s set his sights on a third female. Zoo boss Shaun Foggett said: ‘He is a very important tortoise.’
