First glimpse of Glasgow as New York for 5th Indy film

By Stuart MacDonald

FOR a few days it was a street in 1960s New York. Now film fans have been given a glimpse of scenes shot in Glasgow for the new Indiana Jones movie.

Parts of the city were turned into the Big Apple last year for the fifth film in the adventure series starring veteran actor Harrison Ford.

The first official trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has been released and features scenes filmed in Scotland, including a chase sequence where Ford, 80, is seen at a parade for the returning Apollo 11 astronauts.

A body double for the star was spotted filming the scenes around Renfield Street, St Vincent Street and West Nile Street in July 2021. Scottish legal firm Cloch Solicitors tweeted: ‘Good to see our office neighbourhood feature in the new Indiana Jones 5 trailer.’ In the trailer, Jones is heard saying: ‘I don’t believe in magic, but a few times in my life I’ve seen things, things I can’t explain. And I’ve come to believe it’s not so much what you believe, it’s how hard you believe it.’ The film series started with Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981. The new instalment, which was also shot in the Borders, England, Italy and Morocco, will be in cinemas on June 30 next year.
