Better to talk it over?

DID the Palace act too quickly in accepting Lady Susan Hussey’s resignation after the 83-year-old, who acted as a companion to the Queen for 62 years, repeatedly badgered campaigner Ngozi Fulani over where she ‘really’ came from? Her remarks were disgraceful and the timing – at the start of the Wales’s US tour – was unfortunate. But I feel an opportunity has been missed. Had the two met (and Lady Hussey has now offered to do this), had she apologised in person, had there then been a conversation about changing attitudes and learning lessons, then the whole thing might not have appeared so brutal, or so deeply unpleasant.
