TOP SPIN AT THE TEST

By LAWRENCE BOOTH

ENGLAND achieved their highest total in Asia, beating 652 for seven against India at Chennai in 1985, when Graeme Fowler and Mike Gatting made double-hundreds.

IT WAS also their highest total against Pakistan, surpassing 598 for nine in Abu Dhabi in 2015, when Alastair Cook made 263 in nearly 14 hours.

THEIR 95 boundaries — made up of 86 fours and nine sixes — were their most in a Test innings, beating 88 against India at Lord’s in 1990.

PAKISTAN leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood conceded more runs in an innings than any other Test debutant: his 235 went past Sri Lankan spinner Suraj Randiv’s 222 against India in Colombo in 2010.
