Midwife may give birth to a wartime prequel
THE long-running BBC1 hit drama Call The Midwife has been on screen for more than a decade, and writer Heidi Thomas has vowed to keep going until at least 2025.
But she’s also considering a spin-off prequel, set during WWII. She said: ‘I’d be fascinated to find out what life was like at Nonnatus House during, for example, the Blitz in 1940. How the nuns would have coped with life back then. My imagination can spill over in any number of different directions, and I think that would be an interesting time.’
The first series of Call The Midwife, back in 2012, was set in 1957.
