There was no Scottish bloodline in the case of the Oldham-born forward. It was the fact that he spent five years north of the border while his father Andy was keeping goal for clubs including Dunfermline that made his inclusion possible. He became the all-time top scorer for the Scotland Under-21s with three goals in 14 appearances for the senior side.
