Magennis may return

BRIAN MARJORIBANKS

HIBS boss Lee Johnson could call on Kyle Magennis for help in shooting down Hearts today — a month after it was feared his season was over. The injury-plagued attacking midfielder has not played since a 2-0 home win over Kilmarnock on February 18 and it was revealed in April he was flying over to Germany to go under the knife. However, Johnson is tempted to turn to the talented 24-year-old to conjure up some attacking magic during the vital Edinburgh derby clash at Tynecastle at lunchtime. Should Hibs win, they would pip Hearts to fourth place in the Premiership and secure guaranteed European football next season. Johnson said: ‘Kyle Magennis is training but it has probably come a little too soon — although, I don’t know, actually. ‘I was sat there watching him on Thursday and, you know, I like Kyle and the way he plays. ‘Without any sort of minutes it would be extremely high risk — but we may need a little bit of magic that he can bring.’ Johnson will be without on-loan Burnley defender CJ Egan-Riley after he limped out of Wednesday’s 4-2 home win over Celtic but Jimmy Jeggo and Joe Newell are expected to be fit.
