HUGH BONNEVILLE (pictured) stars as DSI Iain Barclay in this five-part thriller from 2007, which focuses on five crucial days in a police investigation. Vivacious young mother Leanne (Christine Tremarco) disappears without trace after stopping off to buy flowers en route to visit her grandfather (Edward Woodward), leaving her two children in the car by the side of the road. By the time her husband (David Oyelowo) reports them missing, we know — though he doesn’t — that the children have been picked up by a man who tells them he knows their parents.

It’s a tense and edgy affair, which was followed by another equally gripping five-part series in 2010 — involving a baby abandoned in a hospital and an off-duty policewoman (Suranne Jones) caught up in a bizarre sequence of events after someone falls onto the line in front of her train. The strong cast also includes David Morrissey, Bernard Hill and Anne Reid. There was also a two-part spin-off for Bonneville’s DSI Barclay, called Hunter, which comes to Britbox on 22 June (available via the ITVX Premium subscription service).
