POETS REVISITED

Byron and Keats served up some rare treats. As poets they were second to none. Wordsworth as well, as anyone can tell, Many tributes and accolades he won.

Shelley and Burns liked to take it in turns To write about English and Scots. While Coleridge himself, couldn’t sit on the shelf But wrote about how the sea rots.

We remember the name of ‘Paradise’ fame, For Milton, one never forgets. While Kipling and Poe, felt a strong urge to go And write about jungles and threats.

The master of pun, Oscar Wilde was the one, Who ridiculed all those around. But Alfred Lord T was as nice as could be, As all those who knew him had found.

For more modern times, the Master of Rhymes, Undoubtedly was Dylan Thomas. But the Dylan called Bob, just makes his words throb, And Leonard Cohen was so full of promise.

If I’ve left any out, I can say without doubt, That I’m the one who certainly cares. I make up this list, but of those that I’ve missed, The best is the splendid Pam Ayres.
