McIlroy to play Scottish Open

RORY McILROY has added his name to the impressive field already assembled for this year’s Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick. World No 1 Scottie Scheffler, defending champion Xander Schauffele and major winners Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose and Justin Thomas will also compete for a prize fund nearing £6.5million. ‘It would be great to win a title in the home of golf,’ said four-time major winner McIlroy, 34. ‘The Scottish fans have always been very supportive of me.’ The Scottish Open will take place from July 13-16 in it’s usual slot a week before the Open Championship, which this year will be at Royal Liverpool. Schauffele won by a stroke from fellow American Kurt Kitayama last year, which was the fifth successive Scottish Open at Renaissance Club.
