Why I’m bringing sexy back

Make a slinky slip autumn-ready with a cashmere roll Nothing says autumn like a For a touch of texture,

To keep our style mojo topped up at this time of year, our wardrobes require that subtle touch of je ne sais quoi.

The days are crisper, there’s a chill in the air, school runs have begun and scented candles and cosy sofa throws are once again vital household players.

While I’m a sucker for wool and aromatic wax, this autumn, instead of simply turning into our usual hibernating hedgehog in pyjamas, we need to dig deeper and emerge from our burrows dressed with edge and sass.

Why? Because over the past 12 months we’ve had enough of sitting on our sofas in tracksuits to last us a lifetime!

Hence why I suggest not bothering with too much of that this year and instead enjoying an autumn look that makes us want to shimmy down the garden path to oohs and aahs from curtain-twitching neighbours.

Adding a chic – and sexy – feel to your look is easier than most people assume. Here are my tips…

1

One of my favourite staples for this time of year is black leather trousers with either a kick-flare or a flattering straight leg (avoid skinny ones ‒ not many real-life humans can get away with them). Add a cashmere roll-neck and ankle boots for a cosy but sophisticated daytime look. Or try teaming with a cotton or satin white shirt, a tuxedo blazer and strappy heels. Worn the right way, leather trousers can look terrific at any age and now is a great time to get some before they’re all snapped up. All hail knee-high boots – they are a godsend at this time of year. I love wearing mine with midi dresses and pencil skirts for both day and evening looks.

to the back of the wardrobe – hallelujah! – let’s start thinking about slits. There is nothing more confidence-boosting than wearing a skirt or dress with a sophisticated side or front slit. Just add some slinky tights.

Lastly, wear your jewels on your feet. My head has often been turned in a restaurant by a sparkly shoe. It’s particularly potent during the darkest months while drinking a glass of smooth velvety red.
