WEATHER WATCH
John Kettley
The last week has seen a marked drop in temperature with overnight frosts and stormy winds as low-pressure systems became trapped around our shores. Coastal areas and upland fells have inevitably been more exposed to this wintry weather with the heaviest snow and blizzards hitting the Scottish mountains. Wind turbines can show their value as a renewable energy source in conditions such as this but they can be vulnerable and need to be shut down in the face of excessive wind speeds.
Following a wild weekend, a more normal service will resume in the coming week. Frosts are still likely with some snow at times on higher ground but we will also see milder winds and rainbands extending from the west.
