Dad killed in sickle attack in Thailand

By Padraic Flanagan

A BRITISH man who was attacked and killed with a sickle in Thailand was last night named as father-of-two Marcus Evans.

His partner and mother of his children, Melanie Derrick, posted a picture of the two on Facebook captioned: ‘And just like that another person I loved dearly… Gone xxx.’ It is understood that Mr Evans’s parents, who live in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, were told of his death by the Government yesterday morning. Shaun Dagnan, 55, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire, a friend of Mr Evans, was seriously injured in the incident and is said to be fighting for his life in hospital.

The pair were attacked in the town of Kanchanaburi by a Thai man. Local reports said police were called to a house where the pair had been drinking outside at around 3.50am on Saturday. Police said they had been there from around 9pm the day before.

They found the injured Britons bloodied and wounded -– with one of them lying face down in a pool of wine with no shirt on and wounds to his neck.

A friend of the pair, Adria Licci, 59, from Italy, who also lived in the resort, said Mr Evans, 49, had arrived on December 17. He said the men knew the attacker and had drinks with him before and had given him cigarettes.

‘We think the issue was caused by the guys playing loud music, but this should have been discussed and solved. It shouldn’t have to be this violent,’ he said. Police Colonel Somkiart Chomchai said a suspect had been arrested and taken into custody.
